Is there anything more divine than sunset beach photos? Particularly along the West Coast, where the sun seems to stretch the golden hour just a little longer, and time slows down as the sky transitions through hues of orange, pink, and gold. The rhythmic sound of the waves, the salty sea breeze, and the soft sand beneath your feet—it all comes together to create pure magic.

Love can be found in obvious places, however the sweetest can be found when you were actually not looking but feeling from the deepest place.

Ali & Ryan

So, when Ali and Ryan reached out to me for a couple’s photoshoot, I couldn’t have been more excited. Ali, originally from South Africa, was visiting with her partner Ryan, who is from the UK. Naturally, Ali had her heart set on Bloubergstrand, her hometown, as the location for the session. There’s something deeply meaningful about photographing couples in places that hold personal significance, and Bloubergstrand, with its iconic views of Table Mountain in the background, was the perfect spot.

Stormy weather

However, we were a little nervous as the weather looked uncertain. Cloudy skies and a chilly breeze aren’t exactly the ideal combo for beach photos. After all, there’s nothing worse than battling the cold and trying to stay dry on the beach. Despite this, we decided to go ahead and hope for the best. Luckily, the elements were on our side that day! The ocean mist that had hung in the air began to lift just as we arrived, and soon enough, the sun peeked through the clouds, casting the most enchanting golden glow over the water. It was as if nature was showing off her best tricks just for us.

And the result?

Absolute magic! The light bouncing off the waves, the soft pastel sky, and the warmth between Ali and Ryan made for an unforgettable session. They were so natural together, laughing and holding each other, that it felt effortless to capture their connection. Couples in love truly give me all the feels, and it’s why these kinds of sessions are some of my absolute favorites to photograph.

A big thanks to Laura Mitchell for Ali’s beautiful hair and make-up.

6 Reasons Why You Should Have a Couple Photoshoot Right Now

1. Capture Milestones in Your Relationship

Life moves fast, and a couple photoshoot is a beautiful way to freeze the important moments you share. Whether you’re newly engaged, celebrating an anniversary, or just want to celebrate your love, it’s an amazing way to document your journey together.

2. Create Lasting Memories Together

Photos aren’t just images; they’re memories. When you look back at your couple’s photos years from now, you’ll be reminded of the fun you had during the session and the love you shared at that point in time. Additionally, the candid moments that naturally happen during a shoot often capture the essence of your relationship.

3. Celebrate Your Love in a Unique Location

South Africa offers such diverse and stunning backdrops for your session, from beach sunsets on the West Coast to scenic mountain landscapes. A photoshoot is a perfect excuse to explore new places with your partner, and having those moments captured in a special location makes the photos even more meaningful.

4. Boost Your Confidence as a Couple

There’s something empowering about being in front of the camera together. It brings out a sense of closeness, adventure, and fun, helping you feel more connected and confident as a couple. The end result? Photos that reflect not only your love but your confidence as a team.

5. It’s the Perfect Excuse to Dress Up and Have Fun

Let’s face it, we don’t always get the chance to dress up and look our best with our busy schedules. A couple photoshoot gives you the opportunity to style yourselves, pick out your favorite outfits, and have a mini date while being captured in your element.

6. High-Quality Images for Your Home, Social Media, or Invitations

In the digital age, there’s nothing like having professional, high-quality photos of you and your partner. These images can be used for anything—from adorning your home walls to sharing special moments with loved ones on social media. And if you’re planning a wedding or an event, they’re perfect for invitations or save-the-date cards!
