As an engagement photographer the golden hour is simply the perfect time of the day. It is that hour just before sun sets. I love how the light shifts, bringing a magical atmosphere that makes everything feel otherworldly. It’s a time when your eyes widen to take in the breathtaking views and the crazy-beautiful colours that unfold before you. It’s pure magic.
Photographing Nina and Nick, two special souls in such a glorious location was truly a treat. With just a month to go before their wedding day (which you can see HERE), it was wonderful to spend some time together, capturing their connection.
I know warm-up shoots (as I like to call them), like engagement sessions, can seem daunting, but trust me, they are 100% worth it!
Here’s why:
1. Celebrate Your Relationship Milestone
The proposal and engagement are significant steps in your journey together, yet they often get overshadowed by the big event. Engagement photos capture this special time in your life when you’re madly in love and eagerly anticipating your future together. These images help you savor the fleeting moments before the whirlwind of wedding planning takes over.
2. Embrace Your Adventurous Spirit
Wedding day photos are often more formal, posed, and constrained by time (not to mention the hovering family and friends). An engagement shoot, on the other hand, is your chance to be yourselves—whether that’s exploring mountain peaks, standing under a waterfall, enjoying inner-city vibes, or cozying up in your new home. This session reflects your unique love story, celebrating what brings you together.
3. Build Your Photo Library
Engagement photos are perfect for your engagement announcement, Save-The-Dates, wedding day décor, and programs. If someone’s creating a wedding slideshow, these professional photos will beautifully reflect the essence of your relationship.
4. Get to Know Your Photographer
It’s so much easier to be in front of the camera when you’re familiar with the person behind it. For me as your photographer, it’s a chance to see how you interact and discover your best angles (wink-wink). We also get to share ideas and translate them into unique wedding photos that truly represent you.
5. Boost Wedding Day Confidence
Many people feel a bit awkward in front of the camera. Spending time together during your engagement session lets you get comfortable with the process, making the experience on your wedding day more relaxed. You’ll know what to expect, how I work, and you’ll feel more at ease—no added stress about being photographed. Plus, your friends and family will vibe with the confidence too!
6. Combine It with Your Hair and Makeup Trial
All dressed up and nowhere to go? Don’t let that hair and makeup trial go to waste! Combine it with your engagement session, and you’ll get to make the most of your look. Afterward, why not go out for a romantic dinner or something that makes your hearts sing? Two birds, one stone. You’re welcome!
7. #Instabeauty
Who doesn’t love a gorgeous #instabride (to-be)? Share your love story with the world, and make your Instagram shine with these beautiful photos. Get your wedding party excited for the big day and keep your Instagram stories a cut above the rest. You know it’s a great idea!
