Fleur and Alaine’s Stellenbosch wedding at Winery Road Forest was such a heartwarming celebration of love, connection, and a whole lot of fun. Set in the beautiful Cape Winelands, this venue was the perfect spot for their special day. As a Stellenbosch Wedding Photographer, being part of moments like these is always such a privilege.
Getting Ready: The Buzz of Excitement
The day kicked off at the Country Guest House, just up the road from Winery Road Forest. This spot was ideal for getting ready, especially with a larger bridal party. While Winery Road Forest does have accommodation it limited to one unit. The honeymoon suite, The Simon, is perfect for newlyweds looking to stay close after their big day.
The morning was filled with all the excitement you’d expect after months of planning. And then there was Fleur’s brother, who decided it was the perfect moment to make an entrance in his Batman suit! Fleur’s reaction—one of those sibling looks—had everyone laughing. Thankfully, he swapped it for something more appropriate.
These getting-ready moments are some of my favourite parts of a wedding day. They’re full of love, humour, and little interactions that give you such a clear picture of the couple and their family.
When Fleur dawned her wedding dress I immediately knew the designer. And I am crazy about Rosa Karoo Bridal! Their wedding dresses are so elegant and timeless. And very comfortable too! Which is an important factor in getting great photos.
The bridesmaids looked stunning in matching burnt orange dresses and even brought along their spunky sunglasses for some fun photos under the big oak tree. Nearby, the groomsmen were cracking jokes and enjoying a special bottle of whiskey. And those “Fleur Branded” socks? Absolutely adorable!
The Ceremony: A Blend of Love and Laughter
The ceremony was held in the cozy chapel at Winery Road Forest—a last-minute switch from the forest setting thanks to the October “miggies” (Afrikaans for gnats). The chapel’s large window framed a beautiful Coral tree, creating a lovely backdrop for such a special moment.
Alaine was all nerves waiting at the front, while Fleur shared a sweet moment with her dad just before walking down the aisle. I’ll admit, these moments always tug at my heartstrings—those big smiles and unexpected tears get me every time.
The “dominie” (Afrikaans for pastor or priest) shared heartfelt words. I often wonder if one really remembers everything that was said? Seeing each other in your beautiful wedding get-up’s and then standing in front of all your guests the excitement levels are high! I know for sure I don’t remember anything that was said at my wedding! But what I do remember is how I felt.
Experience always trumps what someone else says. That is why I encourage couples to add something unique to their ceremony time.
Alaine’s best man managed to add some humour when he only brought half the rings for the exchange. Everyone had a good laugh as the rest were retrieved, and the ceremony carried on beautifully.
After their kiss, Fleur and Alaine took a quiet moment together while their guests exited the chapel. It’s such a lovely idea to build little pauses like this into your day—a chance to connect, breathe, and soak it all in. Love that! Those are the memories your want to treasure.
Let the Celebrations Begin!
Confetti, congratulations, and so much joy—one of my favorite parts of the day! Fleur and Alaine led their guests through a doorway in the wall to a charming little courtyard where the talented Salt & Pepper Catering. served the most delicious canapés. The vibe was relaxed, happy, and full of love.
Golden Hour: The Magic Moment
Golden hour is always the dreamiest time for photos, and this was no exception. After some fun shots with the bridal party, I stole Fleur and Alaine away for a few quiet moments together. These are the moments I always encourage my couples to savour—just the two of you, reflecting on the fact that you’re married!
We wandered through the forest to the dam with its breathtaking mountain views, the golden light adding such a warm, tender touch to the afternoon. These are the memories that last a lifetime, and capturing them for my couples is what I love most about being a Stellenbosch Wedding Photographer.
*Oh, and such a cute moment: Alaine and Fleur’s son was a little shy in-front of the camera the whole day, but when he spotted them sitting on the grass it was like a no-brainer! He ran to them whole-heartedly, it was so sweet. And that is what it’s about, moments like that.
Party Time: Speeches and Dancing
The reception was filled with laughter, tears, and heartfelt speeches. I love hearing stories about my couples through the eyes of their loved ones—it always gives such a unique perspective on who they are together.
And then came the dancing! Fleur and Alaine opened the floor with an elegant routine, followed by the sweetest father-daughter dance that had everyone cheering. From there, it was all about the fun as the party kicked into full swing.
Wrapping Up
To end the evening (for me), but to get the actual party started Fleur and Alaine opened the dance floor with a beautiful dance repertoire. Graceful and elegant. Everyone cheered from the sidelines. And then it was time for Fleur to dance with her dad. Oh, my goodness I got such sweet photos of them two, Laughing and totally enjoying the moment.
Fleur and Alaine, being part of your wedding was such an honour. Your day was filled with so much love, laughter, and connection, and I loved every moment of capturing it for you. Wishing you both a lifetime of happiness together!
