There’s something magical about a couples photoshoot in Cape Town. When Savannah and Wouter reached out for a couples photoshoot in Cape Town, I knew it would be something special. Their love story, spanning continents, felt right at home against the vast and scenic landscapes of the Mother City. From the moment we connected, I could see how effortlessly they complemented each other, and I couldn’t wait to document their connection in such a dreamy location.

Meeting Online: The First Step in the Journey

The first step in meeting couples is always online. It’s quite different from in-person interactions, but it’s how most of my connections begin. “Meeting” Savalove storynnah and Wouter started with an email inquiry, which then led to a scheduled Zoom call. I always recommend an initial video chat—it’s a great way to get to know each other, even through a screen, and to get a feel for one another before the shoot.

One thing we had in common was that Wouter is also South African. He had been traveling abroad for a few years, which is how he and Savannah crossed paths. Initially, both were deeply focused on their careers, but Wouter’s friendly and helpful nature caught Savannah’s attention. A friendly, smiley South African, she thought! And, of course, a good sense of humour was the cherry on top.

A few months passed before fate brought them together again—this time at a mutual friend’s birthday party. And as they say, the rest was history!

Creating Comfort for Authentic Moments

One of the things I love most about my work is forming genuine connections with my couples. Getting to know each other before the shoot really helps break the ice, making it easier to capture those authentic, effortless moments.

Due to bad weather, we had to reschedule their shoot, which ended up taking place on New Year’s Day. There was definitely something different in the air that day—it felt like the start of a new chapter. This couldn’t have been more fitting for Savannah and Wouter, who are merging their lives despite careers that often take them to different countries. Planning a future as husband and wife marks the beginning of their next adventure together.

Photographing Savannah and Wouter was an absolute pleasure. They are naturally at ease with each other—Wouter, the ever-gentleman, with his soft kisses and embraces; Savannah, whose beauty is simply captivating.

And then there was our location—the ocean breeze, the golden sunlight, the rhythmic waves, and the feeling of sand between our toes. Everything about it made the shoot feel effortless. There’s just something about the sea that adds magic to every moment.
